Apart from using the Synchrotron facility within Elettra, there are also many excellent off-line facilities within the institute’s premises. One of these is Tomolab. At Tomolab, two microCT facilities allow us to make scans of bone material with various resolutions. An important part of the ENIGMA project is on acquiring a multitude of skills including data acquisition, data reconstruction and analysis. Lots of these training components are taking place within Tomolab. Many thanks to Enigma’s main supervisor, Diego Dreossi, who’s showing me the ropes of using the equipment, and especially also teaching me a lot about the bias we can introduce during the different stages of data acquisition. The shift from conventional to virtual histology brings a lot of components along, and image interpretation needs to be done very carefully with taking many aspects of acquisition and reconstruction parameters into account. Lots to Learn!
